Love as Laughter – #1 U.S.A. – Review

Love as Laughter

#1 U.S.A. (K)
by Bob Ham

Also appearing on the mighty K records is the newly expanded LAL (otherwise known to you young hipsters as Love as Laughter). Formerly a side project of Lync’s Sam Jayne, but recently turned into a full-fledged band, this first release shows off all the pre-requisites for your basic indie-rock combo (straight ahead punk-like rhythms and kind of simplistic-yet-not-so guitar work that keeps the crowd moving), but also features some great out-of-left-field experimentation on the last four tracks to keep all you folks who have shuffled over to the new sound of Chicago placated. If this is any indication of what we are to expect from this band in the future, I say, “RIGHT ON!!!”
