Recoil – Unsound Methods – Review

Recoil

Unsound Methods (Mute/Reprise)
by Bob Ham

The second domestic release by former Depeche Mode man, Alan Wilder, puts anything his former band did to red-faced shame. This disc is a dark, ugly mother rolling around in the dirt of dub and trip-hop sounds featuring some terrific vocal accompaniment by ex-Nitzer Ebb man Douglas McCarthy, erstwhile spoken word goddess Maggie Estep, and newcomer Hildia Campbell backed up by some astoundingly good soundscapes. Having been a fan of his first U.S. release, all I have left to say is that Mr. Wilder should have left the Mode behind a long while ago.
