Although this music is basically geared towards the dance floor, that’s not to say the people creating it aren’t putting out one-off beat structures with some synth-noodling either. These guys do want to put together songs for people who want to sit up and listen and take notes as well. Source Direct‘s new EP Controlled Developments (Astralwerks/ Science) is a clear show of that.

These Metalheadz stalwarts not only kick the ballistics with some great beats, but also throw enough curveballs at you to keep your ears in check whilst the rest of your body is in the groove. This group masterfully layers contrasting beats and odd shots of synth work and samples over a consistent beat that your really left with nothing else to do but dance or pay some close attention.
