Bell – Perfect Math – Review

Perfect Math (Yeah, It’s Rock)
by Jon Sarre

The first song here, “NiceX3,” sorta threw me off, cuz it’s a musty inventory of a childhood spent in a suburban consumer junkheap – Flintstone Vitamins, Big Wheels, “fresh-brewed Tang,” “Kool-Aid with red dye #5” – set to gloomy blues spiel like the Cowboy Junkies if they’d been more of the latter, less of the former. The rest of this Jack Endino-produced EP, unfortunately, veers into the realm of post-g-word Seattle indierockers desperately attemptin’ to find happiness now that the A&R reps’ve moved on and the flannel lies discarded in puddles of stale Olympia Beer. Nice harmonies, though.
