The Simpsons – The Yellow Album – Review

The Simpsons

The Yellow Album (Geffen)
by Scott Hefflon

Mixing dance, sap, and humor, The Yellow Album (originally supposed to be released in ’92 or so) offers a diverse mix. Contributors include members of C+C Music Factory, Heart‘s Ann and Nancy Wilson (with Lisa performing Eurythmics “Sisters Are Doin’ it for Themselves”), Linda Ronstadt (with Homer performing Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away”) and George Clinton. Of course there are plenty of “cameos,” samples and spoken “Doh!”s and assorted comments tucked in, but nothing compared to the “rockin’ this joint” of “Hail to Thee, Kamp Krusty” – the five-minute closer in which everyone in Springfield gets to take the mic like a high-school talent show free-for-all. The Yellow Album‘s title and cover art tips a bright-colored hat to both The White Album and Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but I somehow doubt this is going to compete with either album sales-wise.
