Scorn

(Anamnesis): 1994-97 (Invisible)
by Lex Marburger

No, unfortunately, this isn’t a new Scorn album. He broke up. I mean, he’s not together anymore. That is, he’s not using the Scorn name for his solo projects anymore, due to creative differences with himself, or something. Anamnesis is an album of rare and previously unreleased material, ranging from 1994 (when he was still teamed up with excessive drinker and extraordinary bassist Nick Bullen) to 1997 (when he went off the deep end with his nightmare, ambient twitches and gurgles). Several factors have remained constant throughout – the music is slow, ominous, creepy, and quite apt if you happen to be stalked by a machete-wielding psycho. Of added interest is the John Peel session that the Beasties lifted for the drum beat to “Pass the Mic” and a Coil remix, for all you collectors keeping score.
