Immolation – Failures for Gods – Review

Immolation

Failures for Gods (Metal Blade)
by Tim Den

You can always count on Immolation to deliver wretched, mutilated time signatures in the most unique fashion. What with the confusing rhythms, high-pitched harmonics (often vertigo-inducing), garage-jam drum sound, and the fuzzbox guitar tones (not to mention their knack for writing supernatural riffs that sound like people being tortured), this band deserves an award for originality if nothing else. Failures for Gods is no exception as it runs through forty minutes of non-stop death metal in the ol’ Immolation tradition. Titles like “No Jesus, No Beast,” “God Made Filth,” “Stench of High Heaven,” and “Your Angel Died” also show that these NY boys aren’t about to drop their Satanic and anti-Christian poetry any time soon. So it’s a fun time for all the Hessians and blood-spitters out there, with brutality and originality again delivered in a nice, balanced package.
