Leatherface – Cherry Knowle – Review

Leatherface

Cherry Knowle (BYO)
by Tim Den

It looks like Leatherface‘s American invasion has finally arrived, despite being a decade too late. Cherry Knowle, the band’s first full-length (initially released in 1989), is the first to be re-issued by BYO on the heels of the band’s reformation (and the release of new material on the split with Hot Water Music), hoping to bring the popularity of an already legendary band on the other side of the Atlantic to US soil. And with good reason, seeing as Leatherface has been putting out nothing but quality punk rock since this debut. Wise, sometimes political, lyrics set to Frankie’s nicotine-soaked vocals, speaking volumes of melancholy and youthfulness at the same time. Punk rock doesn’t get much more moving than this. BYO will probably make a killing with this band, because their soulful melodies are exactly what the US punk scene needs right now.
