The Heartdrops – East Side Drive – Review

The Heartdrops

East Side Drive (Melted)
by Rich Romaine

Produced by “Mean” Dean Rispler (who did the last two Candy Snatchers), The Heartdrops have just released their best sounding record to date. From the background of true rock’n’roll, these snazzy dressers look a lot more clean-cut than they probably are. Like the hellraiser in court (again), these hellions-in-sheep’s-clothing smile the wicked smile of bad boys with the silver tongues that’ve kept ’em outta jail thus far. With lyrics about prowling the streets of NYC, “getting down” with chicks they met at the candy store, hating their day jobs, liking girls but not letting it show, The Heartdrops are the real goods.

Part dusty singer/songwriter (but filtered through a decidedly urban sound), part full-on rock (think the punky rock of the Joe Jackson variety), these guys have the makings of non-suck radio rock. While they’ve yet to write the chorus you can’t get out of your head (so you wanna track down the band and hurt ’em real bad), they have the talent and the, ahem, heart-breaking guitar riffs to do it. Expect good things from this threesome.
