Garrison – The Bend Before the Break – Review

Garrison

The Bend Before the Break (Revelation)
by Tim Den

Another local band done good. It seems Boston’s all the rage these days in the emo/indie/hardcore genres, and Garrison is as good a reason as any. Mixing infectious, booty-bustin’ beats with melodic chug-chug guitars, the subtle yet intricate arrangements in each of the five songs here provide not only great melodies, but a heaping dose of “too-much-going-on-for-it-to-be-simply-labeled-emo.” That’s a good thing. With bands like Garrison trying to add a kick to the otherwise sleepy genre, you can bet emo won’t be just another hated categorization for long.
