This is so cool. ’70s gangster film soundtrack music. From India. Lalo Schifrin eat your heart out. Seems that in the ’70s & ’80s, Bombay cranked out dozens of “Brownsploitation” action movies in the vein of Dolomite and Shaft. But instead of Isaac Hayes laying down some bad-ass tracks, Kalyanji, Anandji (don’t ask about the comma, it’s in the liner notes and bio that way, I swear) took the funk to the Far East. Some of this stuff is so far out, it makes George Clinton look like Sputnik. With listings like “Fear of a Brown Planet,” “The Good, The Bad, and the Chutney,” and “Fists of Curry,” it’s obvious that the producers took a little liberty with the track names. If not… well, it’s best not to think about what they’re doing in India… If you’re still not convinced,Dan the Automator & DJ Shadow “help” a few tracks, adding heavy beats & who knows what else. One more thing: If you look hard enough, you might be able to find this on gold vinyl. That’s right, gold vinyl. So cool.
