Kittie – Review

Kittie

by Scott Hefflon

Kittie is a breath of fresh air in an angrier-than-thou biz. Like The Donnas is/was to punk, Kittie bring youthful exuberance (the gals are 15-17, or so I read in an overpoweringly-perfumed issue of Spin) to a genre that speaks to angry youth. Unlike old-timers (like Ozzy, Priest, Rage Against the Machine, and Korn) trying to speak the language of a younger generation, Kittie is of the generation. And while their chops are unrefined, that’s part of the charm.

Without being condescending cuz they don’t deserve it, what Kittie lacks in finesse, they make up for with purity. Striking the roarcore chord like Coal Chamber used to, stomping with the zeal that Pantera once did, Kittie are young ‘uns talking directly to the young ‘uns. With no filters or interpreters in place, the message comes through crystal clear.
