Goblin-snarl vocals with near-porno-sounding female vocals (lots of breathy, dreamy singing, and full-on panting on occasion) swirl atop the charging riffs and mid-tempo pounding. Two distinctions here are the lovely, angelic-apparition vocals (white and shimmery, nearly translucent yet spellbinding) and the dominance of violin. Getting equal billing as vocals, keyboards and guitar, the violin dances and weeps and roars upfront and proud. And their cover of Metallica’s “The Thing That Should Not Be” is like you’ve never heard it. Great but overly long (blame Metallica), dump this on mixes for friends to blow their minds, but fade out after two or three of the six minutes once the point is taken. Every stop is pulled out, every trick used, take a few deep breaths…
