These English Muffins dig Lou Reed but have the self-respect to not make such a big deal of it. Still, he’s in there, like the key parts from “Ten Feet Tall” are copped offa “Sister Ray” (and of course the Velvets copped it offa ? and the Mysterians’ “96 Tears,” but who’s countin’) and singer-with-the-pretentious-name Max Décharné babbles often like Lou on one of his solo records. The thing is, there’s also more rock’n’roll stuff then old Louis cooked up, more Tom Waits gruff-vox whiskey monologues, more mambo shit, too (sometimes even in the same song like “Somethings You Don’t Forget”, f’example). Occasionally they muck everything up and sound sorta like Psychedelic Furs tryin’ to be like Nick Cave, but we shant talk about that, okay?
