Fin Fang Foom – Texture, Structure, and the Condition of Moods – Review

Fin Fang Foom

Texture, Structure, and the Condition of Moods (Lovitt)
by Tim Den

Easy to describe, this sure ain’t. Thank goodness for the bio: “Overwhelming but not overpowering, subtle but not subdued.” Fin Fang Foom weave labyrinth guitar work and off-time signatures into a very calculated, methodical, but no less free-flowing mixture. Avoiding conventional melodies and concentrating instead on expanding/retracting their volume, Fin Fang Foom can best be described as DC hardcore studying for a Ph.D in physics. Some nice piano work is thrown in there for good measure, too (“Of Weddings and Funerals”).
