Just when I thought the last few Guided By Voices albums were boring… Track Star is about as unspectacular as indie pop comes. Wanna know why fans of other musical genres make fun of bands like Track Star? Because of albums like Lion Destroyed the Whole World. Half-assed songwriting and a lackluster performance worthy of the title “slacker.” Mundane pacing, spur-of-the-moment vocal delivery (and melodies), and a loud-as-hell-but-useless live show is the name of the game here. It’s enough to make my teenage cousin’s four-track demos sound deep.
