Bluetality (Century Media)
by Adrian Bromley
I’m not sure how many people out there still like Merauder (or care, for that matter), but this NYC hardcore/metalcore act continues to stay in the spotlight. I guess die-hard fans still buy their albums or they wouldn’t be given the opportunity to release this new one. Focusing on U.S. police brutality as a prime source of inspiration, Bluetality finds Merauder dishing out angry lyrics, maddening hardcore intensity, and moshpit-friendly riffs. Much like their previous albums, Merauder never really seems to stir up enough emotions to keep the listener interested with the flow of things. Sure, some songs pack a wallop, but the others go limp faster than an old man scrambling for Viagra. I can see why many have stuck around to support this tough NYC act, but it’s getting old fast.
