Smut Peddlers – Ten Inch – Review

Smut Peddlers

Ten Inch (Dead Beat)
by Grady Gadbow

If this record had big tits, it’d be a Russ Meyer movie. And yeah, I probably could’ve said that without listening to it. But I’m talking about thematic parallels, not just big tits. In the thin disguise of a moralistic warning against the perils of debauchery and violence, we’re treated to their graphic depiction. Add tits, or in this case, mid-tempo old school punk rock science, and you’ve got some quality entertainment.

Political diatribe “State of the State” makes a convincing argument against affirmative action and for more better skate parks over four fine chords complete with Black Flag chain-gang backup vocals, and I, for one, am convinced that stance doesn’t include a more sinister agenda, because the right wing still can’t write a hook.

None of these eight songs are rocket science, but all of them rock. I haven’t heard any of their other albums, but it’s my guess that in the 10 years they’ve been around, they never bothered to, like, experiment with other styles or whatever. They keep it simple and do it well. In short, it’s tits.
