Dennis Young – Old Dog: New Tricks – Review

Dennis Young

Old Dog: New Tricks
by Jamie Kiffel

Take equal measures of Roger Waters, world music, and goofy optimism, and stir. Place in a small, artsy venue and add aging hippie audience. The weird quirkiness of an experienced musician with long-held leftist values and a collection of Eastern and African instruments is what I hear in Dennis Young. The album is funky, catchy, and a little trippy, with a good beat and loopy lyrics. Imagine smoking substances with your parents and their friends. That is just about where it’s at. Cool, Daddy-o.
