10,000 Watts of Artificial Pleasures
by Wa

The Italian band Dope Stars Inc. enters our musical world with their debut EP 10,000 Watts of Artificial Pleasures, a fence-riding mix, equal parts new wave, Marilyn Manson glam, and Billy Idol fervor. The title/opening track is a sweet and sour wave sound that has a killer synth arpeggio. “Plug N’ Die” is witty, but the length requires some serious pruning. The album takes a turn with the catchy chorus and synth bridge of “Self Destructive Corp,” and from there, it’s but a small leap into the intriguing cover of the 1993 Billy Idol Cyberpunk single “Shock to the System.”

dopestarsincphotoDope Stars Inc.’s EP is wonderfully produced and mastered. It’s a good foundation, leaving room for improvement in their songwriting, particularly their arrangements. A worthy new entry in the world of industrial and Goth rock.
