Heaven Shall Burn
Antigone (Century Media)
by Adrian Bromley
I wanted to like the new Heaven Shall Burn. I championed this band when they unleashed 2002’s Whatever It May Take on Lifeforce, but Antigone just seems to be on autopilot for the most part, an album that is (unfortunately) safe and structured. Maybe I was expecting too much from this follow-up, but I wish this German noise/metal act had stepped it up a notch and come down upon us like bulldozers, something they’ve done in the past. Save for the tracks “To Harvest the Storm” and “The Weapon They Fear,” I’d label this release a disappointment. And the more I listen to it, the more I’m itching to put on their previous record.
