Let It Ride (Thorp)
by Scott Hefflon

Funny how a lame name and generic cover art can make you avoid a band. Too bad, cuz this is loads of fun! Closest thing I can think of is The Toy Dolls meets Dropkick Murphys, but most people don’t know who The Toy Dolls are, which is their loss. Think Warren from the Vandals, or the good Reverend Horton Heat in a punk mood, tearing up the leads and fills (literally “fills”: There are little guitar licks tucked into every corner here), matched by gruff street vocals and group shouts, all tumbling over each other in a mad race to pound three more drinks by closing time. A really fun band hopefully not crippled by a lame name and a label that churns out a lot of CDs, and doesn’t really hone in on any of them to build ’em up, which is a shame, cuz more and more Thorp bands are worth paying attention to. A band like this deserves to be on the mp3 comp, so people’ll click the name, just cuz it’s there, and get knocked flat.
