(Side One Dummy)
by Scott Hefflon

Side One, ya lost me here. Punk label puts out island roots CD (surprising good, and I get why), a cover band’s CD, and this. This is, uh, lame. I like Devo and a bunch of jerky new wave, sure. I survived the ’80s, and came to appreciate a lot of it as I got older. (Boy George wrote good songs, I can say that. That was step 12.) Weak retro keyboard sounds can’t save a limp song. Bass line in “Destroy” is nice. Very Violent Femmes. But that’s sound, not song, nor style. So a couple nice sounds here and there, and the rest, go back to the rehearsal space, and don’t come out again until you have something worth listening to.
