Horror Thirteen (Blood & Guts)

It’s refreshing to hear the roller-rink organ on a lot of these numbers that could otherwise pass for early Black Flag. But T-Virus plays it the way they see fit, even if it means the Bob Seger humping Meatloaf sounds of “Horror Night.” T-Virus has impressive arrangements, but the actual execution is a bit amateurish. Once past the sloppiness, we’re left to deal with aggravating repetition and inane lyrics like “We eat people to the bone/ we eat people all night long/ cause people are food/ people taste so good.” As well as Soylent Green, the virus is inspired by fellow Swede Ingmar Bergman (“Playing Chess with the Grim Reaper”), Rob Zombie (“Living Dead Doll”), video game Resident Evil (“Resident Evil”), and that “Don’t laugh, your daughter may be in here” bumper sticker seen on Chevy vans in the ’80s (“Your Little Princess (Is My Little Whore)”). The irony is that while they name themselves after a Bad Religion logo, they come across as pedestrian and uninventive as a Christian punk band.
