For many years now, Sony’s baseball sim has been the best expression of the sport available, and MLB 11 The Show is no different. It offers the best baseball experience you can find on a console, due in large part to the stellar audiovisual presentation that mimics an actual MLB broadcast with incredible accuracy. A lot of it is in the details, whether it’s the thorough announcer commentary or Youk reaching into the crowd to nab a foul ball from Teixeira or the muted excitement of guiding your created character through his early career in the Road to the Show mode. New this year is full analog control of pitching and hitting, which adds a great sense of tension to both sides of the ball. And among the returning myriad of extras and customizable options is one bullet point that stands out: A controller interface that allows disabled gamers to enjoy the game. It’s a noteworthy, and important, step in bringing games to a wider audience, while at the same time, still giving veteran players more content to chew on than a pouch of Red Man.
