Phil “Landphil” Hall debuts new metal column

In response to an open call from 420-friendly metal blog Metalsucks.net demanding that Cannabis Corpse contribute to their site, bassist Phil “Landphil” Hall (Municipal Waste) stepped up to the plate and has laid down the first installment of his “Landphil Marathon” column, which focuses on pro wrestling, death metal, and of course, ganja. In addition, Richmond, VA’s death-dealing drughounds Cannabis Corpse recently joined forces with Brooklyn Vegan to give the world the first hit off their massive new joint, Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise. The new song, entitled “Blame It On Bud” (sound familiar, Deicide fans?) is the third track off the band’s upcoming sophomore full-length, which drops July 12th on the mighty Tankcrimes. The record will be available in a variety of formats, including the “Pro Stoner Die Hard” edition, which includes the LP on clear vinyl in a gatefold jacket and a bonus track on a foil-stamped flexi disc, along with an embroidered patch and foil sticker. Watch a trailer for the album here.

Mixed by Erik Rutan at Mana Studios and mastered by Alan Douches at West Side Music, Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise was recorded by the band’s own Phil “Landphil” Hall, and reeks of DIY putrefaction.

Following in the tradition laid down by their earlier releases, each song on the record is inspired by a classic death metal track – this time around, Morbid Angel and Deicide are getting the Cannabis treatment! Tongue-in-cotton-mouthed-cheek titles like “Lunatic of Pot’s Creation” and “Immortal Pipes” keep the party rolling, but don’t be fooled: Cannabis Corpseare not a joke band. Sure, they’ll fire up a bowl and chug a beer, but then they’ll rip your face off with a brutal old-school death metal assault, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the seeds of the genre first began to grow. With a European invasion slated for August/September (keep an eye on the band’s official Facebook page and official event page for updates!) and many a nefarious scheme looming on the horizon, the ‘Corpse have only begun to burn.
