Nowadays, too many new death metal bands seem to have incorporated only bits and pieces of the genre’s history – namely the shock value and inherent aggression – in a quest to be the most extreme and unlistenable (You win!). But the style hasn’t endured for 30 years on terror alone, as this new Deicide proves. “In The Minds of Evil” is heavy as hell, but it’s got groove and craft as well. Like Cannibal Corpse’s excellent 2012 release, Torture, this is how death metal is done.
