Einstürzende Neubauten founder touring U.S.

The German-based duo hackedepicciotto, featuring Alexander Hacke, a founding  member of Einstürzende Neubauten, and Danielle de Picciotto, a co-initiator of the Love Parade, will be touring the United States this coming December through February, starting on the East Coast, heading out West and finally wending their way through the South. They are celebrating the release of their latest album Menetekel, a 2xLP set whose title translates as “the writing on the wall.”

Here’s a documentary on the duo for your viewing pleasure: http://bit.ly/2r3MwHk This is in German but it’s got plenty of performance sequences on stage and in the recording studio to enjoy.

Their live shows are notoriously intense. Together they create beautiful, existentialistic, acoustic soundscapes, which roar and vibrate simultaneously leaving their audiences shaken but overjoyed. Danielle utilizes unusual instruments including the Hurdy Gurdy, auto harp, and the cemence as well as the violin and piano; Alexander is a master of the bass, guitar, and drums.

Their new album Menetekel, whose songs form the core of the live show, is darker than its predecessor Perseverantia as this artistic couple work to project mankind’s collective despair over the state of the world today into a monumental symphony of sound, twirling and twisting into a biblical frenzy.

Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto are both legends of their own making: De Picciotto moved to Berlin in 1987, became lead singer of the band Space Cowboys, co-initiated the Love Parade, served as a member of Crime & The City Solution, collaborated with Gudrun Gut in the Ocean Club. Hacke is founder and bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. The couple, who married in 2006, has creatively conspired with countless other artists around the world for almost two decades besides releasing their own work as hackedepicciotto.

Alexander, an excellent conventional singer as well as a throat-singer, growls gnarled, rumbling cries; Danielle, author of two books, writes most of their lyrics. The underlying music evokes nomadic desert drones, screeching birds, bees or whirlwinds accompanied with translucent harmonies, very low and heavy bass chords, and melancholic electronics that start as a whisper and end in a volcanic, rolling wave of apocalyptic frenzy. It’s a mesmerizing universe of sound and emotion which has generated an ever growing group of enthusiastic listeners for both their recordings and the live shows.
