There are some Superdrag freaks out there. I’m a fan of “Goin’ Out” myself. Back in the day, what you got from the Knoxville, Tennessee, band was thick, smart guitars and power-popping rock songs. Singer John Davis is releasing new solo record, JINX, on September 27. He famously reclaimed his religion a couple decades ago, but it hasn’t stopped the songs. “The Future” was the first of three singles released ahead of JINX, and it has a big, sweeping sound, indebted to ’90s alt-rock, which, of course, is the milieu from which he springs. The guitars are still big, but the shoegaze element beats out the pop.
