Frogpond
Count to Ten (Tri-Star)
by Sheril Stanford
Listening to boatloads of crap makes you appreciate a little talent and ingenuity when you hear it. Calgon, take me away from all the earnest emoting, all the boring been-done ’70s shit, and the Karen-Carpenter-does-alternative. Thank you, Frogpond, for delivering me from the sonic hellhole I was drowning in with a little feedback, a little grinding bass, and a little off-kilter rhythm. Grimy, gritty, grinding lyrics delivered in sweet girl vocals are just the kind of anomaly that appeals, and the tunes are evenly tough and edgy.
