The Burrs – Big Breakfast – Review July 1, 1995 Non-offensive light pop. Happy and fun with jumpy and upbeat melodies. They put me in a good mood, even after listening to about 8,000 of these bands.
Still Home – “Junior” – Review July 1, 1995 Still crankin’ out hard edge rock ‘n’ roll. The guitar sound (par for producer Drew Townsend) is large, crunchy. These guys are killer live.
Squirtgun – Shenanigans – Review July 1, 1995 Far from tired punkpop, this is so fast and catchy you may hurt yourself. Clever lyrics to boot.
Speyemusic – Review July 1, 1995 A talented grunge-punk band. They’re tight, competent, and chock full of potential. I’d like to see them live.
Analogue – “Average Luck Charm” – Review June 1, 1995 It has the usual Lou Reed style mumbling, and would be fairly generic if not for some interesting stops and starts and surprise breaks.
16 – “Tocohara”- Review June 1, 1995 They remind me of a cross between Septic Death and Orange 9mm. The whole room was shaking with this on low volume.
Waiting Kates – Review June 1, 1995 Structured pop with Nancy Wilson’s long lost twin singing. Easy to listen to.
The Most Sordid Pies – “Flotsam on the Water” / “Wedding Day” – Review June 1, 1995 The Most Sordid Pies are capable of being an American Stone Roses or Oasis.
Special Head – “Mental Dam” / “Hag” – Review June 1, 1995 Special Head have the disgruntled, butch-but-attractive tough chick-metal attitude of L7. They wear it well.
Sweetie Bomb – Review June 1, 1995 Forgettable alterna-pop, with no twist whatsoever. Volume changes and a few good screams.
