John Monopoly – “Dead Wrong” – Review June 1, 1995 Hard driving funk rock with a sense of ’80s humor. Great cover of Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science.”
Grunk – Review June 1, 1995 Heavy, with twisted guitar. This band has promise, and enough skill to rise to the top, if they have commitment.
Delta Clutch – Wooden Nickels – Review June 1, 1995 What shines out on this one is “Drop of Water,” a swamp rock fuzzy-voiced bit of LSD-soaked country twiddlings. I’d buy an entire CD of songs like that.
Date With Jan – Review June 1, 1995 Poorly recorded, but it’s pretty cool alterna-rock with a splash of funk on the side.
Chinchilla – “Batman” – Review June 1, 1995 An all-girl indie noise-pop band from San Diego who melodicize the oft-used Bikini Kill approach. It’s good even though it’s pretty standard.
Binge – Review June 1, 1995 High energy punk screech core, with a NYC flavor. I like that squealing female voice thing.
Angry Salad – “Empty Radio” / “Rico” – Review May 1, 1995 Pure pop music that soothes the listener while entertaining and enlightening.
Zeke Fiddler – “Half-Baked” / “Half-Inflated” – Review May 1, 1995 Laid back Half Japanese-style stripped down rock. Good songwriting and semi-interesting vocals keep it from being too boring.
Worse Than Useless – Prophets of Punk – Review May 1, 1995 Old school punk that rocks the house with insane aggression and powerful punch. Even though you can’t understand the lyrics, the music rocks.
Worldseed – Review May 1, 1995 Sweet, Goth vocals and moody guitars. Surprising LOUD guitar choruses make this band stand out from all the other Goth bands with female singers.
