Menthol – Review May 1, 1995 Simple, grooving melodies with witty, sexy lyrics, occasionally reminiscent of Bowie-isms of the Stardust era.
Mad Season – Above – Review May 1, 1995 With Layne Staley’s (Alice in Chains) smooth vocals and Mike McCready’s (Pearl Jam) wailing Les Paul, could they go wrong?
Madder Rose – The Love You Save – Review May 1, 1995 Madder Rose rocked on last year’s Panic On. The title track, a classic Jackson 5 tune, is terribly put to shame, and from there, it only gets worse.
Luau – Review May 1, 1995 Girl punk that I’ve been meaning to see for a while. If you think only Cali-core can have balls, think again.
Love Pollution – Review May 1, 1995 Solid classic rock ‘n’ roll from Boston’s rock champs. Great piano and slide guitar work. No real screamers or quick tempoed glam, just rich, timeless music.
Kix – Show Business – Review May 1, 1995 15 years and still kickin’ it out. They haven’t changed a bit. They still play AC/DCish, laced with rockisms galore. Some great lyrics in there.
Jose Fist – Dry Drive – Review May 1, 1995 I had heard good things about this band, but all that went out the door after listening to ten seconds of the first song. What a piece of shit.
Jasper and the Prodigal Suns – People Get Ready – Review May 1, 1995 In actuality, the album sounds like G. Love and Special Sauce with a steel drum recorded in a Wheaties box.
Jason & The Scorchers – A Blazing Grace – Review May 1, 1995 Roadhouse rock is not exactly my favorite, but with these moonshine-running, petal-to-the-metal rockers, I can overlook the whiskey-soaked ballads.
INBLU – Sleep Well Patrons of the Arts – Review May 1, 1995 An interesting blend of ambient art rock and slick pop craft. The hooks are subtle, but long-lasting. The production is fantastic.
