Tekken 5 – Review

June 13, 2005

It’s the best-looking PS2 game on the block, and it knows it. Backgrounds are rendered with aplomb, and the environmental effects are intense.

God of War – Review

June 13, 2005

You head-butt your opponent and proceed to shove your blade into his gaping maw, extracting glowing spheres of life energy. You don’t defeat, you annihilate.

Doom 3 – Review

June 13, 2005

The old-school shooting of Doom 3 pissed a lot of people off. Beyond bleeding-edge graphics, it delivered lighting and shadows as dynamic as those in real life.

Devil May Cry 3 – Review

June 13, 2005

The last Devil May Cry entry was a near total derailment of a series. Try as you might to resist 3, you’ll stick around because the gameplay is so damn good.

Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 – Review

February 28, 2005

While it retains all classic, zero learning curve, highly improvisational, and brutally challenging skateboarding madness, something soured with Underground.

Spiderman 2 – Review

February 28, 2005

Great first impression and occasional flashes of brilliance are scattered throughout a game that grows boring in spite of extreme inventiveness and likability.

Rome Total War – Review

February 28, 2005

Half brain-twisting turn-based empire management, half heart-stopping real-time battle simulator, Rome condenses 300 years of history into a single experience.

Rainbow Six – Black Arrow – Review

February 28, 2005

The levels take place all over the world, not just the Middle East. Environments are bigger, brighter, and more colorful than the predominantly industrial ones seen previously, and include a subway terminal, ancient ruins, and a fancy hotel. Terrorists are considerably smarter, love their RPGs, use hostages as human shields, and exhibit considerably more interest in survival.
