Refused Are Fucking Dead is a documentary in the vein of Meeting People is Easy, in that it’s not a “band DVD” but rather an outsider’s telling of the story.
For whatever reason, the band’s brand of classic power-trio heavy rock seems to spring into a further dimension when the three members step onto a stage.
Still around after 20+ years. Despite having never been a major player in the thrash/death scene, the band have persevered without losing an ounce of potency.
While I applaud their attempts at becoming “more serious” by tackling concept albums, almost every product from such thinking has resulted in absolute garbage.
Catchy, brutal, technical, well-recorded, and gore-a-riffic as anything the band have ever done, which means there are going to be a lot of happy longhairs.
Sleepwalking through riffs and Postal Service electronics, these ten do little more than favor Delonge’s yowl, as the rest of the band stay out of the way.
The Mask as a karate movie, complete with faces that squash inwards and necks that twist like barber poles. Looney Tunes taken to its most chop-sockey extreme.
