GDFU have that warm, thumpity-thump, deep-dish groove, clear singing, and sonic/structural referencing Kyuss, Sleep, Black Flag, Sabbath, and Monster Magnet.
The band journeys yet further into the annals of classic rock history, now virtually indistinguishable from progenitors such as KISS, Foghat, and the Stones.
The fatalistic beauty seems more urgent. Dax’s vocals and guitar (both often distorted) and Tessie Brunet’s feral drumming and lovely harmony vocals are here.
Kinda like Rollins Band, if Rollins fronted an AmRep band. Unsane with an increased appreciation for subtlety and melody. A nimbler Helmet ,with tighter focus.
Hard to believe it’s Joe LeSte of Bang Tango. The band are so corrected and corporate-sounding, every trendy texture thrown on the guitar, bass, and vocals.
Lamont coined the term (and titled their second album) “thunderboogie,” which describes their sound better than any number of words could ever hope to do.
