Tampa-based Tallhart are the first band released by Say Anything’s Max Bemis’ Rory Records through Equal Vision. And it doesn’t sound like Say Anything.
Good god we need Good Clean Fun! The hardcore/punk/emo scene is as stale as month-old gym socks, and eyeliner/bed-headed boys really need to be made fun of.
I’ve never cared much for most of Bane’s songs, but they sometimes surprise me. Like the end of “Swan Song,” the part with the group shouts and a vocal cameo.
The metal edge is chamfered by dramatic soaring Goth rock progressions and honed with Sabbath crunch. Spacey electronic squeaks put a modern stamp on the piece.
Here’s a band that’s firmly entrenched in the hardcore ethos of scream and blast away, but is happy to mix in a healthy portion of ’70s arena rock riff-o-mania.
