Guitars abound on this release, and some of does cross over into metal/hard rock territory, but the licks are so buttressed with sugar, you may not notice.
First thing ya notice is this record’s really loud, like louder than everything in the CD changer, loud like their buddies’n’countrymen Guitar Wolf is loud.
Mick Collins’n’the lovely’n’talented Terri Wahl pull a Detroit Cobras or pre-Mr. Downchild ’68 Comeback an’ record a whole record of other peoples’ songs.
Heavyhitters Tim Kerr (Lord High Fixers, Poison 13, The Big Boys, Monkeywrench, etc.) and Lisa Kekaula (of The Bellrays) and grind out some soul groove.
The greasy fingerprints of Mick Collins’ Deetroit roots are all over this thing. Whole chunksa soul backbeat galore. Ya hear it and ya wanna get up and dance.
A big bucketa soul fried up wit’ garage grease’n’some nice Memphis rootsy-type sensibilities. Pretty cool stuff and not just for a buncha Canadians, either.
Like his buddy Wild Billy Childish, Dan Melchior plunders elderly American musical styles (like, uh, rock’n’roll and blues) and then rams ’em back home.
