A nostalgia joyride, strapped in A Clockwork Orange-style. The tape’s running at double-time. And the sound quality is decent at best. 35 songs is too many.
Trick Babys are the screech of a robust alley cat backed up by the rumble of delivery trucks in low gear. Hard-drinkin’, sharp-tongued, balls-out rock ‘n’ roll.
Most of the 24 groups featured would definitely qualify as “underground” with the exception of Black Train Jack and Wax, who blend in quite nicely nonetheless.
While Trick Babys combine all the tasty flavors of bawdy and squealing female vocals and punky zest, they also have side dishes of raunchy mid-tempo blues.
