Slowpoke – Review

Slowpoke

by Karen Granaudo

With all the talent and experience behind each band member in the Western MA grunge/funk band, there is little doubt that they’ll be successful. The power-packed lead vocalist, Tim St. John, and bassist, Ken Kareta (both formerly of Wonderland) contribute to the funk around sound and phenomenal lyrics. Chris Bartlett, formerly of Plastic X, add a hater, more aggressive style. Last, but certainly not least, is the former drummer of blues rock band, Inside Charlotte, Mike Cadarette, who adds his own groovy twist.

Although the band has only officially been together a few months, they’ve already plunged head first into the scene. With shows throughout Massachusetts and New York, Slowpoke‘s most devoted following is their own home base, the Vertex in Hadley. Slowpoke has vivacious energy on stage and keeps their audience screaming for more. Their set is primarily originals, with a few personalized covers. One notorious cover is a high energy rendition of Prince’s “Darling Nikki.” If you’re into grunge/funk, Slowpoke is definitely a band to see.
