Give or Take a Day – Fiction

Give or Take a Day

by Matt Fitzgerald

Mister Markus rose on Friday

Thinking it was Saturday,

Went about his daily doings

Undisturbed, without delay,

Made his meals and ran his errands,

Drew the shades at 10 that night;

Nothing clued him to his error,

No one stopped to set him right.

Next day Markus acted likewise,

Next day too, and on again,

Never knowing that last Friday

Had-for him-not ever been:

One meek day that never happened

Lost among the fading blur,

Soon no more or less important

Than the days that really were.
