7 Year Bitch – Viva Zapata – Review

7 Year Bitch

Viva Zapata (Cruz)
by Paul Lee

It’s about damn time! Yeah, in the testosterone world of hard musique, it was high time that the women came out to kick our asses. I’m not surprised in the least that they can punk it up and rip ears to little shreds. Take 7 Year Bitch, for instance. These four Seattle women blast and avoid the grunge. They take all their rage, the rage that you would expect women to have after being fucked over so much of their lives by the pitiful examples of men, and unleash it via their punk destruction.

With Viva Zapata, their second Cruz release, 7 Year Bitch holds nothing back. Really, anyone who digs corrosive rock will dig ’em. Yeah, I’ve heard L7 and Babes In Toyland, but 7 Year Bitch has put out better stuff. They’re just raw and pissed off with nothing fancy to adorn them either musically or stylistically. This is the way punk should be, so tell all those who think punk is dead and who don’t believe women can create a furor with their music to die a painful death!
