Beyond Id – We’re Out Of Cornflakes F.U. – Review

Beyond Id

We’re Out of Cornflakes, F.U

From Western Mass comes We’re Out of Cornflakes, F.U., a compilation of video singles and other assorted film bits by alternative poppers Beyond Id. Conceptually, the video works well, and it’s also nicely produced (done by film major/drummer Sean “Jacques” Lambert), professional looking and entertaining, almost of MTV quality. And speaking of MTV, the band appeared on their Week in Rock show when Sean decided to run for the local school committee to draw attention to the apathetic election; the story also appeared on WCVB’s Chronicle. Beyond Id’s music has a familiar Western Mass style (Sebadoh, Dino Jr., etc.). They don’t exactly break ground musically, but are certainly competent. What does work for them is their distinct angle on publicity/lifestyle. They’re a reviewer’s wet dream for quotes, anecdotes, and obscure recipes. Too bad we’re out of room.
