Generation – Brutal Reality – Review

Generation

Brutal Reality (Metal Blade)
by Scott Hefflon

Now here’s something different: Christian industrial metal. After religirock fizzled and got even more sillier than when it began, along comes Generation. Brutal Reality (Metal Blade) is tortured mid-tempo to thrashy rage, littered with the sampled debris of a faithless, technology-driven world. How ironic that the science they use as a medium is also the source of their hatred. As solid angst-riddled music, it more than holds its own; as a realization that disillusioned revolutionists are not all god-bashing bitches, it’s in a class by itself. They still seem just as confused, pissed, and miserable as everyone else-they’re just not apathetic, agnostic/atheistic whiners like so many. The radio-ready “I Live in Flesh” tips a hat to the sex/control issue and, I swear to God, I hear Reznor croaking in there.
