Best of the NY Underground Film and Video Festival – Review

Best of the NY Underground Film and Video Festival

(Film Threat)
by Laura Kallio

If you hadn’t noticed already, it’s a pretty slow time at the movies. So this month, it was decided that a very weird, very cool, very un-Hollywood film company should get some attention. One of the best of Film Threat’s videos is Best of the NY Underground Film and Video Festival.

Forget Russ Meyer, forget Quentin Tarantino. This stuff makes Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted look tame. It’s a compilation video made up of the nine most memorable films of the festival. Watch as Frank and Dave drive bravely south in search of revenge, stopping along the way to make sure that as many strangers as possible know about their murderous plan, and to call their mothers. Listen to a young convicted murderer describe what lead up to the double homicide he committed in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, of all places. Some of this is hilarious, some of it is just plain weird or fun to look at, and some of it is downright offensive. If your taste runs to the bizarre or even if you are just completely bored by generic Hollywood wheat germ lately and could use a good kick in the pants, check this video out.

Other fun stuff from the good folks at Video Threat:
Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies (Todd Phillips/60 mins.)
Completed just before his death, this is a documentary for fans of the man who had been known to shove bananas up his ass and then feed them to audience members – that’s entertainment.
