Stereolab – The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad Music – Review

Stereolab

The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad Music (Too Pure/American)
by Joshua Brown

Electric as a thundershower, delicate as baby’s breath, Stereolab. I mean, fuck, can one be much more “right on” than having a name like Laetitia Sadier and a sprite-like voice that sings in both French and English to a backdrop of Moog/guitar alternative rock’n’roll? I doubt it. The album, Peng! (1992) and the mini-album, The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad Music (1993) will be news to some and old news to others. They both pre-date the Elektra release, Mars Audiac Quintet, but are being released for the first time in the U.S. by American Recordings. Indulge.
