Candiria – Surrealistic Madness – Review

Candiria

Surrealistic Madness (Too Damn Hype)
by Tim Creter

Anyone listening to this disc could easily label it death metal, but that would be ignorant and downright wrong. No, there are too many styles merging here to call it death. Candiria is a band that has the power and intensity of a death metal act, but it also blends jazz, hardcore, and other worldly elements. The result is an enormous and undeniably heavy tidal wave of force. With all these influences, I am reminded of the immensely talented but overlooked band, Acid Bath. Because of this mass assortment of sounds pouring out on the table, pseople will no doubt have trouble figuring this out. But here’s a hint: there is nothing to figure out. You have to accept this lump of “madness” for what it is, which is heavy to the point of destruction and potent enough to be called ingenious. You can’t say enough about this band, and yet it’s too easy to say nothing at all. I know, I know, can I be any more vague? It is just that this band is hard to describe but is pleasurable and unpredictable to the ears. If you like an unexplainable heavy and aggressive sound, give this a try.
