Negativland are not musicians so much as “culture jammers,” using found sound, deadpan wit and a sense of purpose to tangle up the media netwebs of our society and throw the manipulations we unthinkingly accept every day into sharp relief. In so doing, they’ve confused and infuriated as many as they’ve enlightened and gotten into some real costly trouble (any “band” that can piss off Bono, Greg Ginn, and Casey Kasem in one fell swoop has to be on the side of the righteous). For these reasons and more, they are IMPORTANT. NegativBob (a.k.a. Robert Nelson) knows this – he’s a convert and NegativFan is his Xerox pulpit. It’s just typewritten, and the layout is nonexistent, but for updates and reviews of all things Negativ, as well as a cheap signpost to related materials and relevant press clippings “sampled” from sundry sources, this is the place to go. Must reading if yer a Neglander or just look like one.
