Skarhead – Drugs, Money, Sex – Review

Skarhead

Drugs, Money, Sex (Another Planet)
by Tim Creter

The new generation of New York hardcore is finally looking bright with bands such as Sick of it All, 25 Ta Life, and Madball leading the crews. But this era has not forgotten the sounds that brought them to where they are today. So, in order to preserve the old-school style, members of Crown of Thornz, Madball, Maximum Penalty, and H2O got together and created Skarhead. They first appeared on New York’s Hardest Compilation with two songs, and have now released this soon-to-be-classic EP. The music is the fast and furious, drive and pile-on pace that will remind people of the glory days of bands like Agnostic Front, Warzone, and numerous others. But this band is also able to groove enjoyably without letting the songs go downhill. At first listen, these tunes may sound annoying, but soon enough, they get trapped inside your head. The voice of Crown of Thornz’ Ezec sounds as mighty as ever, leading these fanatics into the spotlight. Crown’s guitarist Mike Dijon also shines here as he gets credit for writing most of the music. Sure, they’ve stamped hardcore and New York all over themselves, but who cares? This stuff is bound to make the scene fun again. So if you’ve got a hard-on for hardcore, steal this.
