Three Dead Directors To Pray For

by Mark Phinney

1. David Lean. The master of setting. Lean took us to parts of the world we could never afford to visit. He put the word “splendor” on the map. Films to check out: Ryan’s Daughter and Bridge On The River Kwai.

2. Derek Jarman. England can never look at its past the same way again. Jarman threw a monkey wrench into Maggie Thatcher’s vision of a perfect U.K. Check out the films Edward the II and The Last of England.

3. 03. The Misfits. ‘Nuff said.
